Protein phosphorylation: A potential target in glioma development

نویسندگان

چکیده

Glioma is one of the most common primary brain tumors, and mortality due to this disease second only cardiovascular cerebrovascular diseases. In traditional surgery, it difficult eradicate glioma; often recurrence increases its malignant degree, leading a large number patients killed by disease. It important subjects study pathogenesis explore effective treatment methods. Research on glioma mechanisms mainly focuses effect DNA methylation in epigenetics. Although there are many studies protein phosphorylation, no overall regulatory mechanism. Protein phosphorylation regulates variety cell functions, such as growth, division differentiation, apoptosis. As consequence, plays part various activities glioma, can also be used target regulate development glioma. This review aimed at studying understanding pathological mechanism, an in-depth analysis it. The following discussion migration invasion, resistance death possibility treating phosphorylation.

T-lymphokine-activated killer cell-originated protein kinase (TOPK) as a prognostic factor and a potential therapeutic target in glioma

TOPK is overexpressed in various types of cancer and associated with poor outcomes in different types of cancer. In this study, we first found that the expression of T-lymphokine-activated killer cell-originated protein kinase (TOPK) was significantly higher in Grade III or Grade IV than that in Grade II in glioma (P = 0.007 and P < 0.001, respectively). Expression of TOPK was positively correl...

Smoothened is a poor prognosis factor and a potential therapeutic target in glioma

Malignant gliomas are associated with a high mortality rate. Thus, there is an urgent need for the development of novel targeted therapeutics. Aberrant Hedgehog signaling has been directly linked to glioma. GDC-0449 is a novel small molecule inhibitor of Hedgehog signaling that blocks the activity of smoothened (Smo). In this study, we evaluated the in vitro and in vivo effects of the smoothene...

BMI-1 is a potential therapeutic target in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma

Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) is a poor-prognosis pediatric brain tumor. No effective curative therapy is currently available and no therapeutic advances have been made in several decades. BMI-1 is a member of the multimeric protein complex Polycomb repressor complex 1. It is highly expressed in a number of diseases and malignancies and has been implicated in self-renewal of normal an...

Altered protein phosphorylation as a resource for potential AD biomarkers

The amyloidogenic peptide, Aβ, provokes a series of events affecting distinct cellular pathways regulated by protein phosphorylation. Aβ inhibits protein phosphatases in a dose-dependent manner, thus it is expected that the phosphorylation state of specific proteins would be altered in response to Aβ. In fact several Alzheimer's disease related proteins, such as APP and TAU, exhibit pathology a...

Apoptosis as a Potential Target in Therapeutic and Vaccine Interventions against Parasitic Diseases

Apoptosis is a physiological cell death that occurs under normal conditions in major biological processes, including the removal of old, damaged, extra, or harmful cells. It plays an important role in natural evolution, tissue homeostasis, removal of cells damaged or infected by viruses, and removal of immune cells activated against self-antigens. The purpose of this review was to examine the r...
